Hartford-Based Magnet School Wins Historic Basketball Title
Hartford's SMSA won its first state title with a 71-54 win over Stratford in boys basketball.

HARTFORD/MOHEGAN, CT — History was made Sunday as a regional magnet school based in Hartford took home its first-ever CIAC state championship in boys basketball.
Sport and Medical Sciences Academy (SMSA) secured its first state championship in boys basketball Sunday, defeating Stratford High School 71-54 in the CIAC Division III final at Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Tigers were led by Elijah Williams, who finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Jaylen DelValle, who added 13 points and seven rebounds. Bishop Rush contributed 11 points and five rebounds.

The victory caps a magical 24-1 season for SMSA, a Hartford magnet school focused on medical and sports sciences.
The team competes in the North Central Connecticut Conference and is coached by Robert Doucette.

SMSA built a decisive advantage over Stratford, maintaining control through the second half to secure the program’s first CIAC title since the school’s founding in 1997.
