Hartford City Clerk Dies After October Hit-And-Run: Reports
Noel McGregor was struck by a car when he was standing outside his vehicle on the shoulder of Route 2 in Colchester, authorities said.
HARTFORD, CT — Hartford's city clerk has died following an October incident where he was struck by a car in Colchester, according to reports citing officials.
Noel McGregor, 74, died Friday after suffering serious injuries when he was hit on westbound Route 2 near Exit 16, NBC Connecticut reported. The driver of the car that struck him fled the scene following the collision.
Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam and Council President Shirley Surgeon released a joint statement to NBC confirming McGregor's death:

"Earlier today, we learned that our Town and City Clerk, Noel McGregor, tragically passed away as a result of injuries sustained during a hit-and-run incident on October 22," the statement read. "The City of Hartford has suffered a great loss, and Noel's unwavering dedication to Hartford and its residents will carry on in the heart and soul of the Town and City Clerk's office."
According to a WFSB report, the incident happened shortly before 7:20 p.m. when McGregor's car was parked on the right shoulder of Route 2. McGregor and a passenger were standing outside the car when McGregor was struck by a dark blue Jeep Cherokee, which had damage to the right side mirror and right side door handle.

Police are still looking for the Cherokee, which they described as a true blue pearl color, reports said. Police said the vehicle is likely a 2015 to 2023 model.
