Fugitive From Hartford Caught: U.S. Marshals

The suspect reportedly assaulted a police officer from Derby while escaping Jan. 5.

HARTFORD, CT — A federal fugitive from Hartford who escaped police custody earlier this month in Derby was apprehended Tuesday by federal, state and local law enforcement officials, according to U.S. Marshals.

The U.S. Marshal Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force, Hartford Police Department and the state Department of Corrections Parole Division apprehended Hartford resident Felix Rodriguez, 0f 21 Crown St., Hartford, on Tuesday, Jan. 17, federal officials said.

Authorities said, on Jan. 5, while in police custody for firearms offenses, Rodriguez requested medical care and was transported to Griffin Hospital in Derby.

Federal officials said, while receiving medical care, Rodriguez assaulted a Derby police officer and escaped on foot.

A perimeter was quickly established by law enforcement, but Rodriguez was not apprehended.

As a result, the U.S. Marshal Violent Fugitive Task Force was contacted for assistance.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Marshal Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force, Hartford Police Department and the Department of Corrections Parole apprehended Rodriguez.

DOC personnel assumed custody of Rodriguez, according to authorities.

In addition, to previous firearms charges, Rodriguez is now facing additional charges of escape from custody, assault of a police officer, larceny and a parole violation.

The task force’s objective is to seek out and arrest violent fugitives and sexual predators.
