Hartford Habitat Earns Prestigious Award

The award was recently given to Hartford Habitat for Humanity.

Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity: Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity has received the Residential Award of Honor from The Connecticut Green Building Council. This award is given to companies and programs for outstanding design in a single family residential building.

Hartford Habitat dedicated their first net zero home in May of this year. The home meets the requirements of Energy Star Certification, EPA Indoor AirPLUS and Zero Energy Ready Home with a HERS rating of -7. For comparison, a standard new construction home has a HERS rating of 100 and most Hartford Habitat homes are rated at 50. Partners from Eversource, Posigen, Home Energy Technologies, Spray- Tech Insulation and Connecticut Green Bank were critical in the development and realization of this undertaking.

Along with the net zero home, Hartford Habitat has a high standard for energy efficiency in their new construction. While these homes are better for the environment, they also benefit the homeowners. With enhanced insulation and alternative energy sources like solar panels, the cost of utilities is decreased for the families that own the homes. Hartford Habitat CEO, Karraine Moody says, “We are honored to be among the leaders in energy efficient building in the state. Hartford Habitat is committed to creating communities of sustainable, environmentally friendly homes throughout the Hartford Area.”
