Hartford Hospital Tops in Leapfrog and Healthgrades Rankings Again

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based on the work done by hospitals to prevent medical errors.

Hartford Hospital is once again receiving top marks nationally for quality and safety.

The hospital has earned an “A” grade for safety from independent watchdog Leapfrog in the latest round of national rankings. Hartford Hospital is also the only hospital in the state and one of only 100 nationally to receive Healthgrades’ 2022 Specialty Excellence Award for cardiac care for demonstrating excellent clinical outcomes for heart bypass surgery, coronary interventional procedures, heart valve surgery and heart attack or heart failure treatment.

“We are so proud to once again receive these prestigious recognitions from Leapfrog and Healthgrades. These awards are a true testament to our entire team’s unwavering commitment to safety and to providing the highest quality care to our patients,” said Hartford Region President Bimal Patel. “Thanks to our full team approach across all areas, we have created a culture of excellence and continuous improvement that empowers all of our colleagues to help to ensure the highest level of quality and safety for our patients.”

Hartford Hospital is one of only nine hospitals in the state and four within Hartford HealthCare, including Backus Hospital, Charlotte Hungerford and The Hospital of Central Connecticut, to receive an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for the spring of 2022. Hartford Hospital’s inclusion on the “A” list is particularly significant because it is a large tertiary care hospital treating a high number of patients with complex conditions each year. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on the work done by hospitals to prevent medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring. In 2021, Hartford Hospital also received Leapfrog’s “Top Teaching Hospital” recognition -- one of only 72 nationwide.

Healthgrades is designed to help consumers evaluate and compare local hospital performance specific to specialty service lines and specialty focus areas. The group analyzed and identified the top ranked hospitals in each state across eight key specialty areas for 2022: Joint Replacement, Spine Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Coronary Interventional Procedures, Stroke Care, Critical Care, Pulmonary Care, and Prostate Surgery.
