Hartford Man Charged After Fight With East Hartford Police Dog: Police

He was taken into custody after a foot chase and K-9 struggle, with stolen items recovered and multiple charges filed.

EAST HARTFORD/HARTFORD, CT — Police in East Hartford arrested a Hartford man Tuesday night after a foot pursuit and fracas with officers and a police dog that resulted in the recovery of stolen merchandise.

Officers with the East Hartford Police Department said they spotted a vehicle around 7:46 p.m. on Prospect Street that had previously fled from police and was linked to multiple thefts and pursuits across several jurisdictions in recent weeks.

Police stopped the vehicle at 1210 Main St., where the driver, Kyronne Williams, 40, of Hartford, fled on foot, according to authorities.

During the struggle, Williams struck the police dog several times “about the head and torso,” police said.

Officers deployed pepper spray and a Taser in an attempt to gain compliance, but Williams continued to resist, police said.

Emergency medical services transported Williams to a hospital. He was later released and taken into police custody.

Police said several items of stolen merchandise were recovered from the vehicle.

Williams faces charges including interfering with police, cruelty to animals for allegedly injuring a police dog, reckless use of a highway by a pedestrian, and simple trespass.

Authorities also said he had outstanding arrest warrants from Connecticut State Police, the town of Wethersfield, and the state of Rhode Island.

Williams was scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on April 21.

Police credited officers and assisting units with the arrest and recovery of stolen property.
