Police Charge Hartford Man In Mass. Kidnapping
The suspect was detained Monday on Interstate 91 in Hartford.

HARTFORD, CT — A Hartford man was charged Monday for a kidnapping incident reported out of Springfield, Mass., according to state police Tuesday.
Connecticut state police out of Troop H in Hartford said they have charged Willie Avery Campbell, 25, of Hartford with: third-degree assault; second-degree kidnapping; second-degree unlawful restraint; operating a motor vehicle without insurance; operating an unregistered motor vehicle; and operating without a drivers license.
Police said Campbell was held on a $100,000 bond and transported to Hartford Correctional Center pending arraignment Tuesday at Hartford Superior Court.

According to state police, on Monday, Jan. 16, at about 8:07 p.m., Troop H in Hartford was contacted by the Springfield Police Department and advised of an active kidnapping which had been reported in Springfield.
Springfield police provided a description of the suspect vehicle: a gold Chevy Malibu displaying a temporary license plate which was last known to be traveling south on Interstate 91 toward Connecticut.

Connecticut State Troopers were able to locate and intercept the described vehicle on I-91 southbound prior to Exit 36 and detain the operator.
Investigating troopers determined the vehicle’s passenger, an adult, was the victim who had initially reported the incident to Springfield police.
EMS responded to the scene to evaluate the passenger, who declined to be transported to a hospital.
