Hartford Man Charged With Stealing Ellington Vehicle: Police
After being pulled over during a seat belt check, the suspect was charged with stealing a vehicle reported missing in Ellington, police said

HARTFORD, CT — A city man was charged in connection with an Ellington vehicle theft after being pulled over during a seat-belt enforcement effort on Interstate 91 in Hartford Monday.
Connecticut State Police said Tuesday Curtis Mackey, 49, of Hartford, was charged by police with first-degree larceny; operating with a suspended license; and failure to wear a seat belt.
The arrest came Monday afternoon at about 12:52 p.m., when the state police Traffic Services Unit were conducting a seat belt enforcement operation, which was part of the ongoing "Click It or Ticket" campaign.

That's when a trooper noticed a 2019 Jeep Cherokee traveling on the entrance ramp from Jennings Road to I-91 south in Hartford.
The operator, later identified as Mackey, was seen not wearing a seat belt, according to police, resulting in a traffic stop.

It was during this stop that police learned the Jeep was reported stolen in Ellington on April 7.
Mackey was then taken into custody without incident and brought to the state police barracks at Troop H in Hartford.
Mackey was later released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment on May 30 in Hartford Superior Court.
The “Click It or Ticket” Campaign, in which seat belt use is being monitored and enforced, started Monday, May 15, and it lasts through June 4.
