Hartford Man Charged In Toddler Hit-And-Run Death: Reports

The 30-year-old is accused of running over a 1-year-old toddler early last month, according to reports.

HARTFORD, CT — A 30-year-old Hartford man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run incident in early June that claimed the life of a toddler, according to media reports.

According to WFSB Channel 3 and WVIT Channel 30, Hartford police have charged Melvin Daniels, 30, of Hartford, in connection with the June 3 tragedy.

The incident happened just before 11 p.m. on Monday, June 3, on New Britain Avenue in the city.

The young girl, who was nearly 2, was rushed to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford, where she was pronounced dead.

The girl was identified as Camila Elizabeth Ramirez-Carcamo of Hartford, and she had reportedly wandered outside a local laundromat while her mother was doing laundry that night.

WFSB Channel 3 reported that Daniels turned himself in to authorities Monday morning.

WVIT Channel 30 reported the charges are second-degree manslaughter; evading responsibility involving death; and illegally tinting a windshield.

Daniels is reportedly being held on $300,000 bond pending arraignment in Hartford Superior Court, according to WFSB and WVIT.
