Hartford Man Fatally Shot New Year's Weekend In New Haven: Police

NEW HAVEN, CT — Two people were shot, one fatally, over the New Year's weekend holiday, police said.

Friday night, just before 7 p.m., cops got a Shotspotter alert of gunfire on Ferry Street, between Chatham and Limerick streets, according to police spokesperson Scott Shumway. When officers got there, they found a 44-year-old New Haven woman who'd been shot, he said. She was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

In that shooting, bullet evidence was collected with detectives from the New Haven police Major Crimes Unit leading the investigation.

Later Friday night, shortly before 10:30 p.m., police got a 911 call about a person who'd been shot on Saltonstall Avenue, between James Street and Saltonstall Court, Shumway said. Police found Ernie Negroni-Feliciano, a 27-year-old Hartford man, who'd been shot, police said. He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital where he was initially listed in critical condition, Shumway said. By Saturday, New Year's Eve, Negroni-Feliciano had died at the hospital from his gunshot wounds.

In this shooting, too, bullet evidence was collected, with detectives from the New Haven police Major Crimes Unit leading the investigation.
