Hartford Man Killed In East Hartford Sunday: Police

The man was found in a vehicle and he had several bullet wounds.

EAST HARTFORD/HARTFORD, CT — East Hartford police have identified a Hartford man as the victim of a shooting homicide Sunday night on Smith Drive.

The East Hartford Police Department Monday said Omar Thompson, 31, of Hartford was shot and killed in the incident, which was reported at about 8:35 p.m. Sunday in the area of 79 Smith Drive.

Police said they were responding to a report of shots fired and found Thompson sitting in the driver's seat of a parked vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

"Police, fire and EMS performed life-saving measures and the victim was transported to Hartford Hospital," the EHPD wrote Monday morning.

"Despite further life-saving efforts by hospital staff, the victim was pronounced deceased."

Police said they are looking for a suspect dressed in dark clothing, who fled on foot after firing several shots towards the victim’s vehicle.

Police implemented a canine to track the suspect, but the individual remains at large.
