Hartford Man Sentenced To 27 Months For Role In Cocaine Ring

Alex Negron is headed to federal prison for his part in a drug trafficking organization that distributed cocaine in and around Hartford.

HARTFORD, CT —Alex Negron, of Hartford, was sentenced Wednesday to 27 months in federal prison for his role in a drug trafficking ring that distributed cocaine in and around Hartford, according to federal officials.

Negron, 37, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant. In addition to the 27 months, the sentence includes three additional years of supervised release. On Oct. 28, 2020, Negron pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine. He is currently released on $175,000 bond, but is required to report to prison on April 5.

According to court documents, the case stems from an investigation into the drug trafficking organization by the Drug Enforcement Administration's Hartford Task Force and the U.S. Postal Service Inspection Service. The investigation revealed shipments of cocaine from Puerto Rico and California were being delivered by a local U.S. Postal Service letter carrier to customers and other large-scale cocaine traffickers.

On March 17, 2019, Negron received a package containing approximately 500 grams of cocaine, which was delivered to his co-conspirators. In June 2019, a grand jury in Hartford indicted Negron and 18 co-defendants with conspiracy to distribute cocaine and other offenses. In May 2020, Negron was arrested.
