Hartford Man Sentenced In Gun, Ammunition Case: Feds

A Hartford man previously convicted of a felony was sentenced to 16 months in federal prison.

HARTFORD, CT — A Hartford man has been sentenced for illegal gun and ammunition possession, according to a statement from Leonard C Boyle, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Allen Evans, 35, will serve 16 months in prison and three years of supervised release for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon.

According to prosecutors, on Oct. 23, 2020, Hartford Police stopped a car in which Evans was a passenger. Evans was arrested after a search of his person revealed a loaded Taurus Model 85 “.38 Special” handgun, and a search of the vehicle revealed additional ammunition.

At the time of his arrest, Evans was on state probation following a conviction in 2018 for possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, according to prosecutors.

It is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.

Evans has been in custody since March 12, 2021. He pleaded guilty Sept. 21.
