Hartford Mayor Proposes Tax Breaks For Restaurants
The proposal is intended to support restaurants hard hit by the pandemic.
HARTFORD, CT — Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin has proposed a tax break for restaurants affected by the pandemic, according to The Hartford Business Journal. The proposal, which will be considered by the city council, would allow restaurants and the city to come to tax abatement agreements.
New restaurants buying or leasing space, or those making capital improvements, could offset personal property taxes if the measure passes.
Bronin said in an interview with The Hartford Business Journal that taxes on kitchen equipment are highest in the earlier years before depreciation. Permitting restaurants tax relief in these earlier years would give establishments more breathing room.
