Hartford Obituary: Jewel Devorse, 72

Condolences to her family and friends.

Jewel Mae Devorse, 72, of East Hartford, beloved wife of Earl Devorse fell asleep in death on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 surrounded by family and loved ones at Hartford Hospital.

Jewel was born in Hartford to the late Clifford and Ethel (Caster) Fitzgerald, she lived most of her life in Hartford and has been an East Hartford resident since 1999. Jewel was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in East Hartford and was a dedicated servant of Jehovah for over 17 years.

She worked as a nurse’s aide with Interim Health for many years and had genuine compassion for helping others. She was known for her strength, her sayings, her infectious smile, her positive words, and her back rubs. She loved music and had a passion for animals, but her main focus was her love for Jehovah and her family who will miss her dearly.

Besides her husband Earl of East Hartford, she is survived by her daughters, Renee of Hartford, Juanita Devorse, of Manchester Denise Devorse of Manchester and Valerie Devorse and a dear son in law Rene Washington of Hartford; her brothers, Stedman Lindsay, John Lindsay, Jack Lindsay and Berdette Brown; her sister Patricia Lindsay; her grandchildren, Jewel Thompson, Kelvin Jr. and Norman Jr. all from Manchester; several great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Gloria Caster, and her dear son in law Garey Thompson.

Jewel will be truly missed she was the life of her family and the glue that kept them together. ~Isaiah 33:24. Psalms 55: 22, Revelations 21: 3-4.

A homegoing service will be held at 5 PM Friday, August 4 at the Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave Windsor. Her family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday from 4 PM to 5 PM. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
