Hartford Police To Give Out Gift Cards For Guns
A special statewide event will take place on Saturday, the goal being to get dangerous weapons off the streets.
HARTFORD, CT — If you have, oh, an AK-47 lying around the house and you just don't know what to do with it, the Hartford Police Department can help.
As part of an annual event aimed at taking dangerous weapons off the streets, the HPD is participating in the 2d annual Connecticut Statewide Gun Buyback & Gun Safe Giveaway Day.
In Hartford, the event takes place on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hartford Public Works Department, 50 Jennings Road.

Basically, if you have an operating firearms of just about any style, you can get rid of it, no questions asked, and get gift cards in return.
According to an event announcement, guns not in working condition may be dropped off, but they're not eligible for gift cards.

Dollar figures attached to the gift cards range from $25 for single- and double-shot "Derringer style" handguns to $200 for assault weapons (like the aforementioned AK-47).
In addition, a limited number of free gun safes will be distributed to those holding valid pistol permits.
"Please support this important community safety initiative by disposing of any unwanted guns to help reduce the risk of homicides, suicides, unintentional shootings, domestic violence and keep guns from getting into the wrong hands," reads the announcement.
Other such events are taking place in Guilford, Middletown, Newtown, Stamford and Waterbury on Saturday.
