Hartford Police Announce DUI Checkpoints, Find Out Where

HARTFORD, CT — Hartford police will conduct two impaired-driving enforcement checkpoints this week as part of an ongoing effort to deter drunken and drug-impaired driving.

The Hartford Police Department's Traffic Division announced the checkpoints will take place on Thursday, June 18, and Friday, June 19, at locations on New Britain Avenue and Main Street.

The first checkpoint is scheduled from 5 p.m. Thursday to 1 a.m. Friday in the vicinity of 175 New Britain Ave.

A second checkpoint will be held from 5 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday near 1000 Main St.

Police said the checkpoints are part of the department's expanded operating under the influence, or OUI, enforcement program.

The initiative is supervised by the Traffic Division and funded through a grant from the Connecticut Department of Transportation's OUI Enforcement Program.

The department urged motorists to plan and avoid driving while impaired.

“Drive sober or get pulled over,” police said in announcing the checkpoints.

Connecticut law prohibits operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Law enforcement agencies throughout the state routinely conduct checkpoints and targeted patrols during periods associated with increased travel and social gatherings.
