Hartford Police Disarm Convicted Felon

A tip from an informant led to the arrest of a man concealing a .22 caliber firearm.

HARTFORD, CT — Yet another handgun was removed from Hartford streets Wednesday as police disarmed a convicted felon in possession of a .22 caliber firearm.

Detectives from the Hartford Police Department Vice and Narcotics unit received information from an informant that an individual in the area of Park and Lawrence streets was in possession of a firearm. Detectives were able to establish surveillance in the area and observed a suspect in front of 646 Park Street matching the description provided to the detectives, Deputy Chief Brian Foley said.

The suspect exhibited characteristics of an individual carrying or concealing a firearm. During the investigation, detectives tactically approached the suspect and determined that he was concealing a .22 caliber firearm in his waistband of his jeans. During this dangerous and potentially violent encounter, the armed suspect was approached and taken into custody without violence, Foley said.
