Lamont Schedules Special Election In Hartford, West Hartford
The election will fill the seat of former state Rep. Edwin Vargas, a Democrat who ran unopposed last November, but resigned Jan. 3.
WEST HARTFORD/HARTFORD, CT — Voters in on state House district serving parts of West Hartford and Hartford have some work to do next month.
Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont announced Monday voters will convene in those two towns on Tuesday, Feb. 28, to fill a vacancy in the state legislature to represent the 6th House District.
Former incumbent Democratic state Rep. Edwin Vargas resigned his seat prior to the legislature's swearing in at the beginning of the month.

Reportedly, Vargas accepted a professor's position in the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system.
He previously only served a neighborhood in Hartford, but in 2022 a small section of West Hartford was included in the 6th House District following recent redistricting.

Only one of 10 voting precincts in West Hartford is part of the reconfigured 6th House District.
The district is, historically, a Democratic one and the Republicans did not have a candidate to run against Vargas last November.
Whoever is elected Feb. 28 will practically serve a full term, as the newest legislature convened at the start of January.
It is not yet known if anyone has been formally announced to run for the office, with both parties not yet making any announcements.
