Hartford Woman Accused Of Spending Her Daycare's State Funds Illegally

Carmen Santiago, 53, from Windsor, turned herself in to police Monday, reports say.

HARTFORD, CT — A Hartford daycare provider has been arrested after being accused of using large amounts of state money to make personal purchases, according to multiple reports.

Carmen Santiago, 53, from Windsor, turned herself in to police Monday, months after police began investigating Santiago's spending on behalf of the Kids Creative Learning Center in Hartford, per WTNH.

It has not been revealed exactly how much money Santiago spent illegally, though investigators said she made "several high dollar purchases," FOX61 reported.

“City officials will continue to work with law enforcement on this matter to hold all parties accountable for any improper use of city funding, while also maintaining access to proven high-quality early childhood education and programming for Hartford’s children," Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam said in a statement shared with WTNH.
