From KNOX: Representative from Hartford Public Schools, Hartford Decides, and the City of Hartford, including the Tree Commission joined KNOX to complete the Keep Kids Cool project. Thanks to the support of Hartford residents, a total of 125 trees were planted at Hartford Public High School, the Museum Academy at Wish, SAND, Batchelder, and Journalism; Media Academy.
According to Hartford Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez, “These trees will not only make our schools and community more attractive. We know that having access to nature helps our students and families feel more welcome in our schools. The impact will last for generations to come."
In 2017 the project won 1st place in the Hartford Decides a participatory budgeting program, allowing KNOX to plant a variety of trees to help filter air pollution to reduce the cause of asthma and other respiratory problems. KNOX Executive Director, Patrick Doyle stated, “Tree plantings contribute to Hartford’s health, wellness, and the environment. We are grateful for the support and partnership that will ensure these trees provide a lasting benefit to students and city residents. We look forward to continuing these partnerships and will build on these efforts to plant more trees through the KNOX Canopy Campaign."

In addition to improving air quality, threes help lower stress by connecting people to their natural environment, conserve energy, and mitigate storm water runoff. So far, KNOX has planted 250 trees this year and hopes to generate enough support to plant 600 trees through the 2019 KNOX Canopy Campaign.
