Latoya Facey Awarded Scholarship, Daughter of Popular Hartford Food Truck Owner
Latoya grew up in the Asylum Hill neighborhood in Hartford, and graduated from Hartford Public High School

Latoya Facey was recently selected as the recipient of the Andy Thiede HR Certification Scholarship. The scholarship was created by Andrea (Andy) Thiede, an HR professional from Berlin, Connecticut, with a passion for helping others in the HR field. Latoya is a Human Resources Business Partner with InterCommunity Health Care in East Hartford.
She grew up in the Asylum Hill neighborhood in Hartford, graduated from Hartford Public High School, and is the daughter of Janet Facey, owner of Janet Kitchen Corner, a popular food truck in Hartford for well over a decade.
Latoya was selected for the HR Certification Scholarship due to her deep commitment to the HR profession, and her mission to ensure that employees feel heard, supported, and valued while helping organizations maintain fair and effective workplace practices. She will use the scholarship to test for the SHRM-CP (Society for Human Resource Management-Certified Professional) designation.

“What drew me to HR was the opportunity to help people. Throughout my career I have been passionate about connecting policies to people — ensuring that organizational decisions are not only compliant and consistent, but also fair and compassionate. As I continue pursuing growth into senior HR leadership roles, I want to expand my knowledge of employment law, employee relations, investigations, and strategic workforce management,” said Latoya. She added, “this certification will enhance my credibility, strengthen my decision-making, and better equip me to influence positive workplace culture, while helping organizations and employees to success together.”

The Andy Thiede HR Certification Scholarship was established in 2016 by Andrea (Andy) Thiede, an HR professional from Berlin, Connecticut, who is committed to giving back to the profession. The scholarship helps offset the expense of obtaining an advanced HR certification.
To date, Andy has awarded 23 HR certification scholarships, totaling more than $12,000. Andy is an HR Consultant with KardasLarson LLC, and HRACC’s (Human Resource Association of Central Connecticut) Director of Chapter Operations.
