Magic Murals to Light Up Downtown Hartford

RiseUP Teams Up With Frontier Communications to Bring "Magic Murals" to Life in Downtown Hartford

Press release

HARTFORD, CT - RiseUP for Arts today announced that it is bringing a new public arts initiative, “Magic Murals,” to Downtown Hartford with support from lead sponsor, Frontier Communications. The “Magic Murals” project will use large-scale projection mapping technology to display dynamic digital artwork on Frontier’s building located at 111 Trumbull St.

Frontier, the largest pure-play fiber internet company in the U.S., provides critical connectivity to Connecticut and is expanding access to its high-speed, reliable fiber internet to more homes and businesses across the state. Frontier’s building in Downtown Hartford houses key components of the company’s network functions and operations. Through the “Magic Murals” project, the building will transform into a digital canvas visible from Interstate 84.

“There’s more to our Downtown Hartford building than meets the eye. The building is at the heart of our work to deliver the fast, reliable connectivity that Hartford needs to compete and lead in the digital economy,” said Mark Nielsen, Frontier’s Chief Legal & Regulatory Officer. “We are committed to helping Hartford thrive, and that is why we are thrilled to partner with RiseUP on a project that will use technology to enrich the community.”

The “Magic Murals” project aims to revitalize Hartford’s urban space, showcase artistic talent, enhance community engagement, foster partnerships, and boost the local economy. It also offers Hartford an opportunity to distinguish itself among other cities in New England by using innovative technology to transform a building into an art project. The creative team includes Emmy Award winning digital creator, Ryan Glista, and art curator Eric Ben-kiki
“Frontier is the ideal lead sponsor for this groundbreaking digital arts project, which is all about creating community connections and inspiring the future of Harford,” said Matt Conway, Executive Director, RiseUP. “We are grateful for their support in bringing this initiative to life.”

“Hartford has one of the best arts landscapes for a mid-sized city in America, and this digital mural will bring a vibrant and unique addition to that landscape through cutting-edge technology,” said Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam. “Innovative partnerships that bring together local employers and nonprofits strengthen our community, and this collaboration between Frontier Communications and RiseUP for Arts serves our residents in that spirit.”

The projection mapping installation, featuring interactive elements and animated visual narratives, will run from November 4th to November 9th with multiple featured shows throughout the week.
