MakerspaceCT Offers Machine Shop MFG Day Tours on October 4

Modern Manufacturing, Access to Hands-on Education, Potential Job and Career Paths, Among Highlights

Every year on the first Friday in October, facilities across the U.S. open their doors to showcase modern manufacturing and inspire the next generation of manufacturers. This year, there’s something new to view in downtown Hartford.

MakerspaceCT is inviting students and the community to tour the many on-site manufacturing shops on Friday, October 4 to get a glimpse of the facility, and learn about available classes and training, as well as Connecticut employment opportunities linked to the vast array tools and training available and now in operation.

MakerspaceCT, which opened this spring, is the largest makerspace in Connecticut and is located in Hartford in the historic G. Fox building at 960 Main Street. It is the second-largest space of its kind in New England. The mission of MakerspaceCT is to positively impact lives by enabling access, innovation, and education.

MakerspaceCT is designed to support an almost limitless variety of material types and fabrication processes - CNC Machining, Metal Fabrication, 3D Printing, Laser Engraving, Vacuum Forming and much more. Equipment that is, in many cases, too expensive or too large for a home or small business to accommodate.

To help meet the growing demand for such equipment and facilities, MakerspaceCT is helping train the workforce – both current and future – in the latest technology, with classes for all types of equipment and tools. Upcoming class during October include Intro to Welding, Intro to Arduino Microcontroller, and Intro to SolidWorks, which includes basic concepts of 3D scanning and editing software.

In recent years, makerspaces have grown in prominence across the country, offering everyone – from inventors, designers, and manufacturers to entrepreneurs, students, and hobbyists – access to the latest technology and equipment needed to bring their ideas to life.
