Man Charged Sunday With Weapons, Larceny Charges In Hartford

Police said the East Hartford resident has a handgun rigged to be a fully, automatic weapon.

EAST HARTFORD/HARTFORD, CT — East Hartford police have arrested a 21-year-old local man on multiple charges following a police chase Sunday, including weapons and larceny charges.

The arrest culminated after a police chase ensued in East Hartford and continued into Hartford's north end, police said.

According to the East Hartford Police Department, Mekhi Thompson, 21, of 150 Park Ave., was charged with: carrying a pistol without a permit ; illegal possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle; use of a machine gun for aggressive purpose; illegal possession of a large capacity magazine; and second-degree larceny.

The EHPD also said Thompson had two failure to appear in court warrants, one of which was a felony warrant.

The two active warrants had court set bonds totaling $1.1 million.

According to police, the incident started at 5 p.m. when officers saw the suspect "operating a stolen blue Honda Accord in the area of 150 Park Ave." in East Hartford.

Police said Thompson fled in the vehicle, prompting a police pursuit, which continued to the north end of Hartford until the vehicle stopped.

According to the EHPD, Thompson attempted to flee on foot and was taken into custody without incident by East Hartford and Hartford police.

Police said, on the passenger seat of the stolen vehicle, police located a Glock 9mm handgun which had been converted to a fully automatic weapon, along with a 30-round high capacity magazine.

Thompson was charged with a number of motor vehicle violations.
