Man Charged In Hartford Graffiti Incident: Police

A man was charged with spray painting a highway bridge.

HARTFORD, CT — A man has been charged in connection with a graffiti incident in Hartford, according to state police. Kevin Lapointe, 29, of Colchester, was charged with second-degree criminal mischief.

A state police officer was on patrol Feb. 9 and was entering the Whitehead Highway from I-91 South at Exit 29A when he spotted two people under a highway bridge spray painting graffiti onto the support beam.

The trooper pulled over and began to approach the two people who were walking on the adjacent train tracks toward a tunnel. The trooper told them to stop and they ran. There was a short foot chase before the two people decided to stop.

An investigation found that Lapointe was spray painting his "tag" on the bridge support beam and had numerous previous arrests for similar crimes in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

He was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Monday.
