Man Convicted In 2008 Hartford Cold Case Killing Of Windsor Man: State

The 47-year-old New Mexico resident shot and killed a Windsor man in Hartford on May 3, 2008.

HARTFORD/WINDSOR, CT — A New Mexico man has been convicted for the 2008 cold case killing of a Windsor resident in Hartford.

Connecticut Chief State’s Attorney Patrick J. Griffin said Monday that a Hartford Superior Court jury March 7 found Mark White, 47, of Albuquerque, N.M., guilty of murder.

The conviction stems from the 2008 fatal shooting of Jumar Joiner, 25, of Windsor, in Hartford.

According to evidence at trial, on May 3, 2008, police responded to a report of a shooting in the area of West Morningside Street in Hartford.

A report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said Joiner suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the shooting, Griffin said.

In the days, weeks, and months following Joiner’s death, investigators followed up on tips and leads but no arrest was made.

In 2017, the Division of Criminal Justice’s Cold Case Unit’s tip line received new leads in the case.

According to Griffin, that information, including the names of two men who told police they witnessed the shooting, helped result in the March 2022 arrest of White.

At the time, White was in the custody of law enforcement authorities in New Mexico on charges of illegal possession of handguns and cocaine.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 6 in Hartford Superior Court.
