Man Killed in Fall from Hartford Highway

He was standing outside his car on I-84 when a collision with another vehicle sent him hurtling over the jersey barrier.

HARTFORD, CT — A New Britain man was killed Tuesday night when he fell over the side of Interstate 84 in Hartford onto the railroad tracks below.

According to a state police report, a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo LS was stopped in the left lane of the eastbound side of the highway near exit 49 around 9:34 p.m. The operator of the car, Mark A. Lopez, 20, was standing outside the vehicle when it was struck from behind by a 1997 Acura TL 3.2, knocking Lopez over the concrete jersey barrier and onto the railroad tracks below.

Lopez succumbed to his injuries; no other injuries were reported, police said.

The crash remains under investigation, and any witnesses are asked to contact Connecticut State Police Troop H at 860-534-1000.
