Man Pulls Passenger from Burning Vehicle, Issued OUI

Though he may have saved a man's life, he was charged nonetheless.

PLAINFIELD, CT- A Killingly man pulled an unconscious passenger from a burning car, but was then issued an OUI, the Hartford Courant reported.

An SUV struck a utility pole on River Street close to 5 a.m., entangling it in wires and lighting it on fire, according to the Hartford Courant. Passenger Elijah Collins, 22, was then pulled from the blaze by driver Ibrahim Kamara, 23, as officers arrived at the scene.

Though he may have saved the Collins’ life, Kamara was nonetheless charged with operating under the influence and failure to maintain a proper lane, the Hartford Courant reported. Collins was taken to a Norwich hospital for treatment while firefighters worked to put out the fire.
