Meet The Hartford PD's Newest K-9 Team

Following national certification, the Hartford Police Department has announced the arrival of its first bloodhound K-9 team.

HARTFORD, CT — The Hartford Police Department has certified its first bloodhound K-9 team, and they are ready to sniff out the bad guys or evidence to catch them or, if needed, find missing persons.

The HPD announced that Officer Chelsea Negron and her partner, Killian, passed testing through the North American Police Work Dog Association.

Killian, a 1-year-old bloodhound, is now certified in trailing and trained specifically in scent discrimination, according to the department.

The certification makes the team deployable for missing persons cases and suspect tracking in Hartford.

Police officials described the milestone as significant for the department’s K9 program. Killian recently turned 1 year old, reaching certification shortly after his birthday.

The certification class included two teams. Fairfield Police Department K9 Officer Tony Renaldi and his partner, Penny, completed the training alongside Negron and Killian.

With the certification complete, the new Bloodhound team is now available for active deployment in Hartford.
