More Layoff Notices Sent to State Employees: Report
Connecticut is facing a nearly $1 billion deficit and thousands of state employees could lose their jobs.

HARTFORD, CT - More layoffs went out to state workers on Monday and the process is expected to continue for the coming days Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Monday.
On Friday, the state Department of Corrections announced 147 layoffs were planned for that agency, and the state Department of Children and Families announced plans Monday to layoff 108 employees at the Connecticut Juvenile Training School, reports Christine Stuart of CT News Junkie.
On Monday afternoon, 59 employees of the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services also received layoff notices, according to reports.

The layoffs are needed in order to address a projected $920 million budget deficit. Malloy hasn’t said exactly how many state employees will be laid off but estimates have ranged between 2,000 and up to 4,000 people, NBC Connecticut reports.
The layoff notices went out Monday to some employees and will continue for some time, the Connecticut Post reports.

Laying off state employees is complicated because of union contracts and bumping rights by some employees.
State unions say they have no desire to reopen their contracts to discuss health care and pension concessions, NBC reports.
