East Hartford Murder-Suicide Victims Identified: UPDATE

The male and female victims were married and lived in East Hartford, police said.

EAST HARTFORD, CT — East Hartford police said the two people killed by gunshot wounds late Wednesday night in a local residence were a married couple.

Following what has been reported as a murder-suicide, the EHPD said officers responded to 140 Hilltop Farms Lane, East Hartford, at about 10:32 p.m. for a report of a gunshot victim.

Upon arrival, police said they located an adult male and an adult female inside the home who had both sustained fatal gunshot wounds, with a gun found near the victims.

Police and members of the East Hartford Fire Department attempted life-saving measures, but they were pronounced dead.

According to the EHPD, the male victim has been identified as Naresh Kumar, 62, from East Hartford. The female victim has been identified as Upma Sharma, 54, also from East Hartford.

Police said the couple was married for several years and "further investigation revealed evidence a dispute had taken place prior to the incident."

There was one other adult present in the home who was not injured and no children were in the home, according to police.

The investigation is still active and police said this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

Police did not indicate the nature of the shooting incident, including who was responsible for the initial murder.
