Mystery Sailboat Stuck In Ice Not A Hazard: East Hartford PD

East Hartford police say they have been barraged with complaints about an abandoned sailboat in the Connecticut River.

EAST HARTFORD, CT — Local police have been flooded with calls about an abandoned sailboat stuck in the ice on the Connecticut River in East Hartford.

And, according to an East Hartford Police Department spokesman, the boat is not a hazard and the owner is cooperating with police on plans to address the situation.

"We have been in recent contact with the owner, who is very cooperative," wrote EHPD spokesman Marc Caruso.

"The owner has assured us that as soon as weather and conditions permit, he will move the boat out of East Hartford to a location further south where there is no risk of the water freezing."

As to why the boat is there, WFSB Channel 3 reports the owner abandoned it because of the high cost of marinas.
