New Hartford Art Gallery Enjoys Successful Grand Opening

HARTFORD, CT — A new art gallery in a growing neighborhood in Hartford enjoyed a successful opening earlier this month.

More than 400 friends and art lovers attended the Parkville Art Gallery’s grand opening show on Saturday, Sept. 7.

After a moment of silence for the recent passing of Hartford-based artist, Tao LaBossiere, gallery director Miguel Matos made his mission clear: to establish the space as a spot for local artists.

Given the proximity to Boston and New York, the gallery located at 1429 Park St. has the unique opportunity to keep everything local and leave the big city names to the big cities.

"The Parkville neighborhood continues to be one of Hartford’s most vibrant communities, with food from around the world, entertainment venues, non-profit services, and now: more art," wrote Parkville Management, which operates the gallery, in an announcement Wednesday.

The opening show mediums included sculpture, painting, collage, photography, hand-blown glass, and upcycled art.

Nearly all 20 artists were present for the celebration to discuss their pieces, all of which are for sale.

Exhibits in the gallery will be rotated out on a three-month basis.

To date, the growing waiting list includes over 20 artist submissions, with up to five requests coming in daily.

The gallery also doubles as event space, in an effort to draw exposure to the exhibit and rotating artists.

The grand opening celebration on September 7 was catered by Piri Piri Q, a vendor at Parkville Market cooking up mouth-watering Portuguese style roasted chicken, with a new location opening at 2074 Park Street in Fall 2024.

Commercial tenants, and neighbors across the hall at Beauty Bridge Hartford, opened their doors as a place for guests to relax before making the rounds in the 4000-square-foot gallery.

Downstairs neighbors Dead Language Beer Project was open for the duration of the event, offering their very own Euro-style lager and American IPAs.
