New Medical Director of Women's Center-Saint Francis Hospital

Officials just announced the new director.

Trinity Health: Kristen Zarfos, M.D., F.A.C.S., has joined Trinity Health Of New England Medical Group at Saint Francis Hospital as the medical director of the Karl J. Krapek, Sr. Comprehensive Women’s Health Center.

Board-certified, Dr. Zarfos acquired her medical degree from University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. She then completed residency training Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT in general surgery. After that, Dr. Zarfos was a resident in general surgery at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA, where she also had a Tufts University teaching fellowship at Baystate Medical Center. Dr. Zarfos’ clinical interests include: Evaluation and clinical and surgical care of women with breast cancer, evaluation and care of benign breast conditions, risk surveillance program for women at increased risk for breast cancer, including family history, BRCA gene mutations and premalignant breast biopsies, breast health and cancer prevention, outreach on women’s health issues, advocacy for women of color for prevention and early detection of breast cancer, health care equity, missionary work.

Dr. Zarfos was instrumental in creating the Comprehensive Women’s Health Center in 2013. She returns to Saint Francis Hospital as a member of the expert breast surgeon team including Drs. Christine Rizk, Edward White, and Whitney Young. She looks forward to once again serving the greater Hartford area.
