New Round Of Layoffs At Hartford-Based Insurance Company
The job losses, announced on Wednesday, Feb. 4, amount to more than 300 employees, including some from Connecticut.
HARTFORD, CT — For the seventh time since fall 2024 and the first time in 2026, a Hartford-based insurer is laying off more workers.
CVS Health, the corporate operator of Hartford-based Aetna, sent a notice Wednesday, Feb. 4, to the state Department of Labor and the City of Hartford that more layoffs were assigned to Aetna's 151 Farmington Ave., Hartford, site.
According to the notice, 313 more employees, 17 living in Connecticut, are targeted for termination starting April 3 and continuing to July 31.

All the impacted employees who live in Connecticut are remote workers assigned to the Hartford office of Aetna, according to the notice. The rest of the employees live out of state.
The company cited "operational changes in CVS Health Aetna’s Small Group business segment" as the reason for the layoffs.

Aetna said none of the employees being let go are unionized, and there are now "bumping rights," meaning longer-tenured staff are not being prioritized to keep their jobs.
In response to the layoffs, CVS released the following statement on Thursday afternoon:
"CVS Health employs approximately 300,000 colleagues nationwide, and we regularly look for ways to operate as effectively as possible to better serve our clients, consumers, and members. These efforts sometimes involve department restructuring that can entail an increase in certain roles, a reduction in certain roles, or both.
"For the WARN notice filed yesterday, a total of 313 positions are impacted, with 17 of those colleagues living in Connecticut. The total number includes people who work remotely but report to someone who is located at the Hartford office.
"We are committed to supporting these colleagues, who will receive severance pay and benefits, including access to outplacement services.
"CVS Health has a deep and longstanding presence in Connecticut, employing approximately 8,800 colleagues across 181 locations statewide, and remains committed to the communities we serve even as we periodically adjust our organization."
This is the seventh wave of layoffs at the Hartford site.
Prior layoffs were:
•December 2025, with the termination of 72 employees.
• April 2025, with the termination of 55 employees.
• January 2025, with the termination of 13 employees.
• December 2024, with the termination of 164 workers.
• November 2024, with the termination of 42 employees.
• October 2024, with the termination of 416 workers.
Much of the layoffs, CVS has said, are part of a massive plan to trim $2 billion from company expenses, a byproduct of declining in-store sales nationally.
