West Hartford Library Hosting Noted Composer To Discuss Remarkable Story

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The Noah Webster Library in West Hartford is hosting a unique person, with a unique story for a unique program.

On Tuesday, March 28, the library at 20 S. Main St. is hosting Connecticut resident and accomplished musician Sharon Ruchman for a talk about her first-ever book, a work about the remarkable life, and death, of her great uncle and his context within her life's journey.

The program is from 6 to 7:45 p.m. and seating is limited, so registration in advance is requested.

At the event, Ruchman, who lives in the Litchfield County town of Washington will discuss her memoir "The Gift of Rudy."

In her book, Ruchman tells the storyabout Rudolph "Rudy" Fuchs, young violinist prodigy in the 1920s and 1930s.

Fuchs died in 1933 at the age of 25 in a plane crash about the Chicago World's Fairgrounds.

But Ruchman's book also delves into her journey to becoming a composer, musician and author.

"She looks back at her authoritarian upbringing plagued by guilt and a lack of self-worth all the while discovering how tracing Rudy’s past frees her musically, giving her life richness and contentment," the library writes in an announcement of the event.
