Teen Driver, 13, Dies in Fiery Hartford Crash; 15-Year-Old Passenger Suffers Burns: PD

Police are saying the vehicle was stolen and was being driven by a 13-year-old who died in the crash.

HARTFORD, CT — Hartford police are investigating a fatal crash which happened Thursday morning near 555 Windsor St.

Police said the crash involved a pair of vehicles that had been stolen in Middletown. One vehicle crashed into and knocked down a utility pole, then became engulfed in flames.

The driver, a 13-year-old boy, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 15-year-old male passenger was taken by private vehicle to St. Francis Hospital, then transferred to the Bridgeport Hospital burn unit, Deputy Police Chief Brian Foley said.

The south end of Windsor Street heading into the downtown area was closed near Pavilion Street through rush hour while the investigation ensued, Foley said.

Around 3:15 p.m., Foley said the second stolen vehicle involved, a 2016 Honda, had been recovered, unoccupied, in Middletown.
