Pro Soccer Coming To Hartford

USL Soccer will add a team in Hartford as part of a league expansion effort.

HARTFORD, CT — Pro soccer is making its way to Hartford. Hartford Athletic will be one of United Soccer League's latest expansion teams and will make its debut in 2019. The team will play at Dillon Stadium in Hartford, which will be renovated with funds from the state and Capital Region Development Authority. The City of Hartford will work in partnership, but isn't contributing funds to the development

“After years of planning and hard work, we are excited to officially announce that professional soccer is coming to Hartford and Dillon Stadium will be brought back to life,” said Bruce Mandell, Chairman & CEO of Hartford Sports Group. “We’re proud of where we’re from and can’t wait to build a Club that will energize our community and bring people together."

USL will have nearly 40 teams in 2019. It first launched in 2011. Games are broadcast on the ESPN+ platform with some select games on regular ESPN channels.

“Dillon Stadium is a historic and beloved community asset, and I’m thrilled that we have the chance to bring Dillon back to life for our community – and as the home of professional soccer and Hartford Athletic," said Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin.

Gov. Dannel Malloy said the state will contribute $10 million to help renovate Dillon Stadium.
