Senator Murphy Moving Hartford Office

He will be moving into a new commercial development within the former Colt factory.

HARTFORD, CT - U.S. Senator Chris Murphy has announced he is moving his Hartford office to Colt Gateway, part of the major new commercial development in Coltsville that the City of Hartford planned in conjunction with the new National Park designation.

According to a written statement from Murphy's office, his new Hartford site will be located in the renovated East Armory building of the Colt Factory.

Murphy worked in partnership with Rep. John Larson, Sen. Richard Blumenthal and the rest of the Connecticut congressional delegation to secure congressional approval for the creation of a Coltsville National Historical Park.

“Growing up in Wethersfield, I drove by Colt's onion dome nearly every week. There is no more iconic landmark in Connecticut, and I'm so excited to be a pioneer in the reinvention of this historic property,” Murphy said in the statement. “The community at Colt Gateway is connecting businesses and Hartford residents to this historic birthplace of Connecticut manufacturing. Old industrial sites all across the state are being repurposed for new development, and I couldn’t be prouder to have my office and staff be part of this exciting trend.”

Coltsville was home to Samuel Colt and his wife, Elizabeth, and is the site of his first factory. The Colt firearms manufacturing factory played an invaluable role in manufacturing innovation in Connecticut and throughout the country during the Industrial Revolution. Specifically, the Colt factory is credited as the first manufacturing plant to utilize the assembly line. Additionally, Elizabeth Colt, known as the “First Lady of Hartford,” contributed greatly to Hartford’s religious organizations and the arts.
