Sigourney Market Destroyed In 2-Alarm Fire In Hartford: Reports
Fire broke out around 3 a.m. and neighbors said it sounded like an explosion occurred.

HARTFORD, CT — A beloved community market was destroyed during an early morning fire, according to media reports.
Around 3 a.m. Monday, fire broke out at the Sigourney Market at 97 Ashley Street, and explosions could be heard by neighbors, according to WTNH News 8. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries battling the two-alarm fire.
The roof of the building collapsed during the fire, WFSB 3 TV reported. A fire official, Darius Ledas, told WFSB 3 TV that “It was a really stubborn fire, due to the fact it had a metal roof and the metal roof holds a lot of hotspots," which made it challenging to fully extinguish the blaze.

Luis Rodrigez, whose family owns the market, told Fox 61 that the small grocery store offered meats, groceries, produce, and various other items. He said after the fire, people in the community told him they're "sorry."
"...But it shows that everybody in the community cares...," Rodrigez said, via Fox 61.
