Photograph Study Shows Hartford Simply Isn't Smiling
Connecticut's capital city residents are not putting on a happy face, according to study.
HARTFORD, CT — Gray skies always clear up — eventually.
But according to study results unveiled Monday, Connecticut's capital city simply refuses to put on a happy face.
Shiny Smile Veneers, which manufacturers wearable tooth guards that act in a similar fashion to braces, actually conducted an in-depth study examining photographs of folks from various cities.

Basically, there were a lot of frowns seen when Shiny Smile analyzed some 15,000 Instagram photos of people in the 50 largest U.S. cities.
On the "least-smile" list, Hartford was only exceeded in frowns by Baltimore, Md., (no. 1); Providence, R.I. (no. 2); and Detroit, Mich. (no. 3)
The "study" was conducted for World Smile Day.
"World Smile Day is Oct. 7 and a new study found that Hartford isn't smiling enough," reads a statement from Shiny Smile.
According to some of the study's key findings:
• Hartford had just 32.9 percent of people smiling in the city’s photos.
• Many of the cities smiling the least were located in the Midwest as well as the East Coast.
• Nationally, 43 percent of all pictures analyzed had smiling faces.
As for the top five cities in the U.S. with the most smiles, they were Cincinnati, Ohio (no. 1); Birmingham, Ala. (no. 2); Austin, Texas (no. 3); Chicago, Ill. (no. 4); and Virginia Beach, Va. (no. 5).
