Surgeon-in-Chief Appointed at Children's Hospital in Hartford

She has served as Chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery at Connecticut Children's Medical Center since 2007.

HARTFORD, CT — The Connecticut Children's Medical Center (CCMC) has appointed Dr. Christine Finck to the position of Surgeon-In-Chief, according to a written statement released Wednesday.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me to impact the lives of children by playing a role in shaping the vision of Connecticut Children’s Medical Center through innovation, community engagement and research,” said Finck, who has served as Chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery since 2007 and is an associate professor of pediatrics and surgery at UConn Health.

Most recently, she took on the role of Associate Director of Academic Affairs, advocating for various clinical, academic and research initiatives across the Medical Center.

Through her own research, Finck has revolutionized outcomes of pediatric and neonatal diseases, most specifically leading efforts focused on identifying and treating those that affect the lungs, esophagus and brain. This past May, her efforts were recognized by The Group on Women in Medicine and Science, who awarded her the Outstanding Clinical Scientist Woman Faculty Award.

“Dr. Finck is an asset to Connecticut Children’s and we are honored to have her as Surgeon–In-Chief,” said Dr. James E. Shmerling, President and CEO of CCMC. “Her dedication, leadership and expertise are paving the way to a better future for thousands of children across the region and will lend great success to her new role.”
