The Wintonbury Mall is the subject of litigation pitting the owners against the town and it currently sits mostly empty.
BLOOMFIELD, CT — The Town of Bloomfield is mulling action relative to a distressed shopping center in town that is mostly empty.
According to both The Hartford Courant and CT Insider, the Bloomfield Town Council is planning to create a commission to investigate its options regarding the Wintonbury Mall, which is a 110,000-square-foot shopping center located at 836 Park Ave., Bloomfield.
According to the Courant, the shopping area has suffered since a movie theater closed there in 2022.

CT Insider reports the mall's current owners are suing the town for comments local leaders have made about, possibly, taking the mall property by eminent domain, alleging that town comments on this hurt the mall site's value.
The purpose of the yet-to-be-formed commission would be to look into the town, possibly, acquiring the site and restoring it.
