Traffic Nightmare On I-84 In East Hartford

EAST HARTFORD, CT — Interstate 84 is a commuter's nightmare Friday afternoon, especially for those traveling west.

That's because traffic is backed up several miles after two separate crashes on I-84 west, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The first crash was reported at 3:33 p.m. and involved a tractor trailer accident that closed the center lane between exits 57 and 56.

As of 4:45 p.m., the DOT traffic site no longer listed that scene as being active.

Then, several minutes later at 3:52 p.m., a three-vehicle accident on that same stretch of I-84 between exits 59 and 58 backed up traffic nearly 4 miles.

The second crash, according to the DOT, shut down three lanes of traffic.

DOT officials said it was "unknown" when the crashes would be cleared.
