Trinity Health Of New England Shares Good News

Saint Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, and Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, have received a 4-star rating.

From Trinity Health of New England: Trinity Health Of New England is pleased to announce two of its hospitals, Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, and Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, received a 4-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This rating recognizes both hospitals for their top quality care, safety, and patient satisfaction. Saint Mary’s and Saint Francis are two of only seven hospitals in Connecticut to receive four out of five stars from CMS, placing them among the top 25 percent of hospitals rated by CMS across the country.

CMS assigned star ratings to more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide based on their performance across seven areas of quality, including:

· Effectiveness of care

The CMS star rating summarizes how well each hospital performed, on average, compared to other hospitals in the U.S. The overall hospital rating ranges from 1 to 5 stars. The more stars, the better a hospital performed on the available quality measures.

“We have worked very hard to develop a culture and practice at Saint Mary’s Hospital to always keep our focus on treating every patient as though they were our own family member,” says Dr. Steven Schneider, president, Saint Mary’s Hospital. “I am so proud of our Saint Mary’s team that the federal government has recognized our success in achieving that goal.”

“Patients have a choice when it comes to their health care. We are extremely proud to offer patients our hospital, where they can be confident they will receive the highest quality, safest care, at the lowest cost,” said Dr. John Rodis, president, Saint Francis Hospital. “We understand that there are very few tools and resources available to help patients choose a hospital, but the CMS rating is a meaningful way to provide transparency and help patients understand exactly what standards their hospital of choice holds themselves up against.”

CMS created a service, Hospital Compare, in collaboration with organizations representing consumers, hospitals, doctors, employers, accrediting organizations, and other federal agencies to provide information about the quality of care at over 4,000 Medicare-certified hospitals. In non-emergent situations, when patients have the opportunity to plan ahead, they can use Hospital Compare to find hospitals and compare the quality of their care to decide which hospital will best meet their health care needs.
