Driver Cited in Crash That Closed Highway for Hours: UPDATE

The tractor trailer truck came to rest across all four lanes on the southbound side of I-91 in Hartford Tuesday morning.

HARTFORD, CT — A tractor trailer truck overturned on the southbound side of Interstate 91 in Hartford Tuesday morning, shutting down the highway for nearly four hours, state police said.

The accident took place between exits 29A and 27 around 9:50 a.m., according to a police report.

The truck was traveling in the left lane around 50 m.p.h. when the operator lost control of the rig. The truck rolled onto its left side, coming to rest across all four lanes. The trailer portion, filled with packaged bottled water, was breached upon impact, police said.

Emergency personnel closed the highway for more than three and a half hours to clear the crash site. The Roadway reopened around 1:30 p.m., police said.

The truck operator, Ralph Perry, 66, of East Orange, N.J., sustained minor injuries and was treated at Hartford Hospital.

He was cited for failure to drive in proper lane, traveling unreasonably fast and failure to pay annual filing fees.
