EAST HARTFORD, CT — Two young Hartford men are dead after state police said they were struck by a hit-and-run driver on a state highway in East Hartford early Thursday morning following a crash.

Police identified the pedestrian killed as being Moncrieffe Marlon, 18, of Deerfield Avenue, Hartford. They identified the occupant killed as being Jaheem Emanuel Miles, 21, of Irving Street, Hartford.

According to the accident report, a 2004 Honda Accord that was being driven by a 20-year-old New Haven woman was disabled in the right lane of two lanes on Route 5/15 South.

Police said the vehicle became disabled due to a prior accident, with the three occupants then exiting and standing on the right shoulder with a pedestrian who had come upon the scene.

Police said a Nissan Rogue, which was traveling in the right lane of two on Route 5/15 South, then collided with the pedestrian, later identified as Marlon, before striking the Honda itself.

The collision with the disabled vehicle then sent the disabled vehicle into one of the occupants, later identified as Miles, who was struck and badly injured.

After the collision, police reported the driver of the Nissan fled on foot and has yet to be found.

Police said Marlon, the pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene. Miles, meanwhile, was rushed to Hartford Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver and another passenger in the Honda suffered minor injuries from the previous accident and were taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, police said.

This case remains under investigation and police are still searching for the driver of the Nissan.

Any witness to the collision or anyone with dashcam footage of the vehicles involved is asked to contact State Police Trooper Michael Dean at Troop H in Hartford at 860-534-1098 or michael.dean@ct.gov.
