Victim Identified In Fatal Fall From Hartford Rooftop

HARTFORD, CT — An 18-year-old college freshman from East Granby died early Friday morning after plummeting from the roof of a building in Hartford.

Taylor Lavoie, a 2016 graduate of East Granby High School who was attending Central Connecticut State University, was found unresponsive in an alley next to the Angry Bull Saloon on Allyn Street in Hartford at 12:31 a.m. She was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m., Deputy Police Chief Brian Foley said.

Investigation has indicated Lavoie was on the roof of the building and fell four stories to the alley below. The Hartford Police Major Crimes Division and the Crime Scene Division are investigating this as an untimely death, Foley said.

Lavoie is believed to have been in the Angry Bull prior to her death, according to Foley.

The Hartford Police Department is in contact with CCSU staff, university administrators and campus police, Foley said.

University president Zulma Toro issued the following statement:

Dear Colleagues and Students, I am very sorry to report that one of our students, Taylor Lavoie, died early this morning. She was a first-year student and lived on campus. I extend my sympathies to those of you who knew her. Vice President for Student Affairs Laura Tordenti has spoken with her roommates and offered counseling support to those who desired it. Hartford police have previously been working with the state liquor commission regarding the Angry Bull, the deputy chief added. The owners of the establishment have voluntarily surrendered their liquor permit for the next three weeks pending an investigation.
