Arrest in Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident

Groton Man Charged with Manslaughter With Vehicle While Intoxicated

Ledyard Police arrested a Groton man Wednesday in connection with a head-on motor vehicle crash that occurred last June on Route 12 and resulted in the death of a passenger in the man’s car.

The driver, James Munsie, 23, of Groton, turned himself in to police Wednesday after a warrant was issued charging him with manslaughter with a motor vehicle while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and failure to drive right.

Munsie’s arrest followed an investigation by Ledyard police into the crash, which occurred June 23 at approximately 1:49 a.m. on Route 12, just north of the Groton town line. The crash resulted in fatal injuries to Romina Bascoli, 31, of Chile, who was a passenger in Munsie’s car.
